It's time. Time for my first major blog. I've decided to utilize this first major blog as a way for you all to get to know me a little better. Before I get into this I just want to say that i feel out of element because my first Human Communications paper is due tomorrow and I have not started. So I'm distracted thinking about that. Which leads to my first topic today of Fullerton. As you know, I attend California State University, Fullerton. I like my school. Before I entered college, I had my doubts that Fullerton was the place for me. The times have changed. I like everything about my school. I've grown accustomed to my 37,000 fellow students, the 30 minute commute, and the underground ping pong tables. This semester I have finally "got connected" to my college, as my consulars would say. I am currently one of the youngest members of the CSUF Finance Association. The first official FA meeting was yesterday. We had 3 guest speakers from companies such as US Bank, The Capital Group, and Comerica. We were highly encouraged to dress up for this event. So i did. I got out of class at 2:15 yesterday and waited around in my car for a bit, went and changed into my business attire, and then waited some more for the meeting at 4:00pm. I went around 3:45 bored of waiting. When i arrived I was the second non-board member there. As members slowly trickled in i noticed a trend. Nobody seemed to care enough to dress up. At the end of it, only 3 non board members out of 30 dressed up. Let me note that I am a freshman, and there are maybe 2-5 freshmen in this club out of 128. 128 members. 2-5 Freshmen members. 30 showed up. 3 dressed up. 1 was a freshmen. At first i was mad at this turn of events. However, later on i felt good because i made an impression on the board members. So overall, the club meeting was a little boring, but i looked damn good.
You Know You Love It.
So moving on. Fullerton is a great school. We just completed building a 41 million dollar gym last year. This semester i have learned to utilize said gym. It was designed to be one of the top energy efficient gyms in the state. Very nice. I work out there every Tuesday and Thursday after class. I'm happy to say that after 6 weeks of consistent gym going 3 times a week, i am starting to feel some effects. I've noticed a slight improvement in my biceps. Very exciting. Like all humans its nice to see improvement when we work so hard. Also, when i go to the gym, i do cardio as well as weight lifting. And today i upped the ante in my stair climbing routine. I used to do 20 mins on the stair climber each time i went. But today, i did a whopping 22. Incredible i know. I officially climbed the Empire State Building which is over 100 flights of stairs. Fullerton is truly a great school. However, like any school, its SCHOOL. After completing one and a half semesters at my school I've come to this conclusion. It is tough. Fullerton is one of the easiest cal states to get into. And the Administrators know it. So to make up for letting students in who didn't care so much about high school, they stick it to us in college. They do not care if you fail. Sometimes i get the feeling some teachers want to see us fail. It's the revenge of academics. You may question the authenticity of this statement, but from what I've heard in discussions with people who have gone to schools all over, and my experience at Fullerton, I'd say this is the case. If you still have doubt, go to Fullerton. I must mention that i do have quite a lot of hw to do after this including my Hcom paper and a Sociology test tomorrow. You have just taken a crash course in Cal State Fullerton and the way John fits in with it. I felt i needed to stress my school in this first blog because school is THE largest part of my life right now and i guarantee i will be discussing it in future blogs. Now i don't have to explain quite as much when i want to refer to certain aspects of my school like the gym and Finance club in future blog posts. However i want you to know that there is a lot more to John than school. You will see this in the course of the next few weeks/months.
So. Now that I am done ranting about school here is a quick update on the stock market: BAD. If you don't already know, the Dow Jones industrial average fell below 7,000 points on Monday. It fell again today an additional 37 points, bringing the grand total down to 6,726. Let me note this for those of you who don't follow economics as much. Around two years ago, the Dow was around 13,000-14,000 points. This is catastrophically huge. My word to the wise: Hold. I predict the market will sink lower. Maybe not now, but at the end of the year it could reach as low as 3,600. So hold off on investing for a while. Switch to fixed savings.
Well i hope you have enjoyed this first major blog of mine. I know i may have gone Cal State Fullerton crazy, but it needed to be done. Friday is my next major blog session so tune in then for another update on the world of John. See you next time!
